An additional 664 officers are unarmed reservists. Approximately 1200 armed officers in full-time duty are in the reserves, with more than 1000 carrying special weapons and tactics (SWAT) firearms. The force operates 312 patrol and bike officers in full-time uniform, 260 patrol officers and 92 bike officers in normal operations, and about 60 patrol officers in SWAT, mounted units and bike units. The department is commanded by the Chief of Police, who is a appointed by the City Council.
